McCook Public Schools will hold an election on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 seeking voter approval of a $43,500,000 bond issue.Â
DISTRICT PROPOSITION
School Building Bonds for Renovations and Building Improvements
Shall Red Willow County School District 0017 (McCook Public Schools) in the State of Nebraska (the “District”) issue general obligation bonds of the District in an aggregate stated principal amount not to exceed Forty-three Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($43,500,000), for the purpose of providing funds to pay the costs of demolishing the existing junior high school, making site preparations and constructing, furnishing and equipping a new junior high school facility on the same site, and related improvements along with renovations and improvements to the existing high school and other facilities of the District; such bonds to be issued from time to time, to bear interest at such rate or rates, to be sold at such prices and to become due at such time or times as may be fixed by, or determined at the direction of, the Board of Education; and
Shall the District cause to be levied and collected annually a special levy of taxes against all the taxable property in the District sufficient in rate and amount to pay the principal of and interest on such bonds as the same become due?

JUNIOR HIGH CHALLENGES
Failing mortar joints due to building settlement line the corridors and restrooms.

Antiquated classrooms and learning environment.
Outdated "curtain wall" interior partitions don't offer much in terms of sound transfer rating.
Getting to 8th grade science requires walking through the 6th grade science classroom.
Industrial tech is setup in former choir space.
Electronics and drafting setup in former band space.
Overall lack of storage space in industrial tech.
Room 44 lacks proper ventilation for engraving laser machine.
Industrial tech spaces are not air conditioned.
Lack of space to offer welding and machine shop program.
Girls locker room space is not Title 9 compliant. More space is needed.
Gymnasium lacks proper storage space for equipment and overall space during basketball season to host games.
Elevated stage design concept is inefficient and doesn't utilize gym space well enough.
ADA accessibility from main floor to cafeteria is inefficient. High school students walk across campus to get to cafeteria.
Elevation changes along main corridor. Lack of space to access lockers during passing period.
Lack of drainage and snow melt along the north food service loading dock.
Drain pipes are kinked which makes some water fountains inoperable.
Large inefficient boilers will be a challenge to replace.
Junior High mechanical systems require daily maintenance.
